Hanoi commences construction of Giai Phong-Kim Dong underpass

Hanoi authorities officially began the construction of an underground tunnel at the Giai Phong - Kim Dong intersection on October 6, with a total investment capital of nearly 800 billion VND (33.5 million USD).

The underpass, cutting through Giai Phong Street, begins at Ring Road No. 2.5 in Hoang Mai district and ends at Kim Dong Street.

The 460m underpass has four lanes, including 140m of underground tunnel and 320m of open tunnel.

The project has a total investment of over 778 billion VND, including nearly 90 billion VND of compensation for land clearance and resettlement and 566 billion VND in construction costs.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh, said that the construction of the underpass is identified as a key project for the city during the 2021-2025 period,to gradually complete the transport infrastructure system according to the planning approved by the Prime Minister. Therefore, the implementation of the project is extremely necessary and urgent, Thanh noted.

The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
