The memorial site covers an area of 27,000 sq.m, with a total investment of 144 billion VND, sourced from the local budget. The construction of the project is expected to be completed by 2024.
The site is built not only to commemorate national hero Nguyen Trai but also to honour and educate younger generations on national patriotism, as well as the culture and history of Hanoi.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Secretary of the Thuong Tin District’s Party Committee Nguyen Tien Minh, hailed Nguyen Trai as a great ideologist, a prominent writer, a great poet, an eminent military expert, a skilled politician and talented diplomat, and an outstanding son of Nhi Khe commune, Thuong Tin district.
Nguyen Trai was also the author of Binh Ngo Dai Cao (Great Proclamation upon the Pacification of the Wu), one of the country’s first declarations of independence. He followed Le Loi in the resistance war against the Ming invaders to regain independence for the nation.
In 1980, on the occasion of his 600th birthday, Nguyen Trai was recognised by UNESCO as a world cultural celebrity.
