HCMC pledges to boost ties with Laos: Secretary Thang

Secretary Dinh La Thang of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has pledged to further deepen the relationship between Vietnam’s largest city and Laos’s provinces and cities.

He made the statement on March 9 at a reception for visiting Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou.

Thang emphasised that in 2017 Ho Chi Minh City will hold a wide range of activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations and 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Amity and Cooperation Treaty.

Such celebrations reflect the city’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Lao localities in a more effective manner, bringing substantive benefits to the people of both countries.

For her part, the Lao top legislator said she was impressed by Ho Chi Minh City’s strong growth, noting that the city is not only a leader in Vietnam’s socio-economic development but also a model for other cities in the region, including Laos.

Thanking Ho Chi Minh City for its productive assistance to Vientiane and Champasak province, Chairwoman Pany Yathotou expressed her hope that the city would continue to support Lao localities in the time ahead.

Earlier, the Lao parliament speaker visited Bac Lieu province, where she was briefed on its socio-economic situation, especially the seafood processing industry.

She expressed hope that Bac Lieu province and Lao provinces would increase exchanges to learn from each other’s experience in enhancing the performance of local administrations, address socio-economic issues and deal with climate change.

The same day, the Lao NA leader also visited a wind farm in Vinh Trach Dong commune of Bac Lieu city.
