Deepening Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership

NDO—The official visit to China made by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the invitation of Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping has concluded successfully. The Vietnam-China Joint Communiqué, which was issued at the end of the visit, said the visit had contributed to enhancing mutual trust, strengthening the traditional friendship between the two states and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between them while helping to promote peace, stability and development in the region and around the world.

Taking place at a time when the two countries are marking the 67th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic ties and are entering an important period of socio-economic development while witnessing complicated changes in the region and the world’s situation, the official visit provided an occasion for the two sides to inform each other on the current situations of their Parties and countries, to reach common views on furthering the development of bilateral relations between the two Parties and the two countries and to exchange talks on regional and international issues of common concern.

The two sides agreed that the traditional Vietnam-China relationship nurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong and generations of leaders is a precious asset for the two Parties, States and peoples and needs to be inherited, preserved and promoted in the context of the new situation.

China’s Party and State leaders and its people gave a solemn, warm and friendly welcome to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, reflecting the close bond between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Talks between the Vietnamese Party chief and Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and General Secretary Trong’s meetings with Premier of China’s State Council Li Keqiang, Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China (NPCC) Standing Committee Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Yu Zhengsheng and other high-ranking Chinese leaders took place in a open, frank and sincere manner.

The Vietnamese Party chief congratulated China on its achievements in reforming and building socialism with Chinese characteristics, expressing his hope that the Party, Government and people of China will succeed in building a well-off, democratic, civilised and harmonious socialist China and in organising the 19th National Party Congress at the end of this year.

He affirmed that Vietnam always places importance on its ties with China and sincerely wishes to develop a sustainable friendship and comprehensive win-win cooperation with China for the sake of the two peoples as well as for peace and prosperity in the region and around the world.

In a sincere, straightforward and trustworthy fashion, the top leaders of the two Parties and countries discussed major plans to strengthen political trust, foster friendship and enhance substantive and effective cooperation in all fields and maintain peace and stability at sea, for the healthy and stable development of Vietnam-China relations. The two sides affirmed that Vietnam and China will stringently pursue the motto “friendly neighbours, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability and looking towards the future” and uphold the spirit of being “good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners.”

The two sides agreed that regular exchanges between high-ranking leaders from the two Parties and countries played a strategic and directive role in bolstering bilateral ties. The two sides agreed to further boost practical cooperation in economics, trade, investment and other fields in order to support each other for rapid and sustainable development in each country while creating a firm foundation for developing bilateral relations. The leaders underscored the importance of the friendship between the two peoples, saying it was a source of power and a social foundation spurring Vietnam-China relations forward in a sound, long lasting and sustainable manner. They agreed that exchange activities between the two peoples, especially among youngsters and local governments, should be stepped up in the time to come.

The two sides have discussed sea-related issues in a straightforward and sincere manner. They underlined the need to observe the common perceptions reached by the leaders of the two Parties and countries and the “agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues between Vietnam and China,” making the best use of the government-level negotiating mechanism on borders and territory and pursuing negotiations and friendly consultations to seek fundamental and long-lasting solutions acceptable to both sides. They also agreed to boost coordination and cooperation in multilateral frameworks.

The Vietnamese side affirmed to consistently adhere to the one-China policy and support the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and the great cause of China’s unification.

Important results from the talks and meetings between the top Vietnamese and Chinese leaders during General Secretary Trong’s visit to China as well as dozens of cooperation agreements on diverse areas signed on the occasion have helped enhance mutual trust, strengthen the traditional friendship and foster the stable, healthy development of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, in order to bring practical benefits to both countries and peoples while contributing to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region and around the world.
