The project, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, was invested in by the Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation, Ltd. (Samco) in phase 1.

As the replacement for the old and overloaded Mien Dong Station in the city’s inner Binh Thanh district, the new complex covers over 16 hectares, is located in Long Binh Ward in HCM City’s District 9 and is a part of the Di An District in neighbouring Binh Duong Province.

The station includes the main bus station area combined with accompanying utility services. Its central station has four floors and two basements, with a total area of about 49,680 m2. Its inter-provincial parking lots cover 27,660m2, offering parking spaces for about 250 coaches.

It hopes to serve seven million passengers a year and act as an international intermodal infrastructure point to bring passengers to the currently under-construction Long Thanh airport in the near future.

The new station will meet the daily travel demand of about 21,000 passengers with 1,200 vehicles departing per day and can be expand to 52,000 passengers and over 1,800 buses departing per day during peak holidays.

In the immediate future, the station will offer 22 trans-provincial bus routes linking the city with other provinces and cities from Quang Tri to the North with a distance of over 1,100 km. These routes are being relocated from the existing station in Binh Thanh district to the new station.

Nguyen Hoang Huy, General Director of the Mien Dong Station Company – the operator of the new station, added that in order to facilitate transportation enterprises and passengers, during the next three months from October 10, transport units will be allowed to continue parking and disembarking passengers at the existing bus station in Binh Thanh, before arriving at the new bus station.
