The Games, which took place in Quang Ninh province and 10 other cities and provinces, gathered more than 17,000 participants from 65 delegations, competing in 43 sports. The athletes competed for 933 sets of medals in 942 sporting events.
The Hanoi team topped the medal tally with 175 golds, 143 silvers and 157 bronze medals. The team from Ho Chi Minh City came second with 128 golds, 119 silvers and 143 bronzes, while the Military team finished third with 90 golds, 82 silvers and 95 bronzes.
Athletes at the event have set 53 new national records and 96 Games records.
At the closing ceremony, the organising board also awarded sports teams with excellent performances at the Games.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Head of the Games’ Steering Committee Nguyen Van Hung affirmed, that the event is of great significance as it conveyed the great care and expectations of the Party, the State and the people, for the future and the development of the country’s sports movement.
The Games also served as a venue for participating athletes to hone their skills and set new records and work together for national development.
