Le Tien Chau, member of the Party Central Committee cum Deputy President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, granted an interview on the reporter of Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper to talk more about this content.

Q: From April 27, 2021, until now, the Delta coronavirus variant has appeared with rapid spread, with an unprecedented level of danger, making the number of provinces and cities that recorded cases of infection, the number of infected people, and the number of deaths unpredictable. Facing these difficulties and challenges, the VFF Central Committee (VFFCC) has carried out many specific and practical activities. Would you please rate the initial results?

A: In the face of the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has delivered an appeal to Vietnamese people at home and overseas to step up COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

Responding to the call of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the whole political system from the central to grassroots levels and all Vietnamese people at home and overseas have united and joined forces to race against time, with the spirit of fighting the pandemic like fighting the enemy, to gradually repel and overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

Joining hands with both the political system and the people, the VFF and its member organisations have been proactive and creative, promoting the core role, coordinating with agencies to call, propagate, mobilise, and promote the strength of the great national unity; evoking the spirit of solidarity and mutual support among the people; contributing efforts and money to support the frontline anti-epidemic forces; supplementing the Government's funding to buy the COVID-19 vaccines; and contributing to preventing and controlling the increase while repelling the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the end of the peak period of donations to support the Covid-19 prevention and control work from May 1, 2021, to August 31, 2021, the amount of money to support Covid-19 prevention and control work through the VFF system from central to local totalled more than VND7.77 trillion, of which the VFFCC received VND 888 billion.

The VFF's member organisations have actively, creatively and flexibly organised many effective and creative models and methods of doing things that have a strong influence in society, thereby inspiring and gathering great resources for epidemic prevention and control.

Other VFFCC's member organisations have also stepped in early, directly reviewing the difficulties of the mechanism, the current situation of influence to have effective and timely support solutions for the VFF's members and people, reducing the impact of the pandemic.

The call of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the drastic direction and strategic shift of the Government and the Prime Minister has created a strong spillover effect. The most obvious proof is that these days, the situation across the country has had positive results, eight out of 23 localities implementing and strengthening social distancing measures have effectively controlled the epidemic; 12 out of 23 localities are continuing the implementation roadmap to meet the epidemic control criteria. Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong Province have also made great efforts; the situation is changing in a positive direction.

Q: The epidemic situation is still complicated, the world continues to witness the emergence and spread of many new variants of SARS-CoV-2. We begin to proactively adapt and deploy scenarios and solutions to safely adapt to the epidemic in the new normal. What activities will the VFF at all levels focus on to participate in the implementation of this important policy?

A: At the recent meetings, the Government and the Prime Minister directed the development and forecasting of scenarios to develop the country in a new normal state, with the highest goal of restoring production, business and ensuring social security for the people.

The VFF continues to perform well in the tasks of the sub-committee on resource mobilisation, promoting propaganda and mobilising organisations and individuals, officers, members, people from all walks of life to respond to the call of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the direction of the leaders of the Party and State, and the call of the VFF to continue to contribute funds, goods, medical supplies, necessities, human resources and resources to support the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The sub-committee will allocate support resources publicly and transparently and will use them effectively and for the right purposes according to the regulations of the State and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

In addition to calling for financial and material contributions, the intellectual contribution of people from all walks of life through the contribution of ideas, initiatives and creativity in epidemic prevention and control is also very important. The sub-committee appreciates and looks forward to receiving contributions, intellectual products, and useful and economical solutions to serve the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic as well as the safe adaptation to the epidemic in the future.

The VFF also promotes its role of presiding, negotiating among its member organisations, and coordinating with the Government and local authorities at all levels to ensure food for the people, deprived of food, clothing or necessities; ensure people's safety, security and social order. VFF also mobilises everyone to support and help each other overcome difficult times, absolutely trust the Party and State, and join hands with the entire Party, people, and army of the whole country to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic. This is an urgent and long-term requirement so that people can quickly adapt to the new normal.

Q: With its functions and duties, how will the VFF continue to implement other work contents under the “new normal” situation?

A: With its roles, the VFF and its member organisations will continue to supervise the implementation of a number of policies on supporting workers and employers, who are facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic under the Government’s Resolution No. 68/NQ-CP, dated July 1, 2021, on a number of policies in support of employees and employers facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic; continue to implement Resolution No. 06/NQ-DCT of the 9th-tenure Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee on strengthening the mobilisation of the entire people for socio-economic development and continuing to prevent, combat and overcome the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the same time, VFF will also strengthen contact and listen to opinions and aspirations to grasp the situation of members and people from all walks of life to promptly reflect and propose to the Party and State in order to promptly respond to difficulties and problems.

The VFF will chair consultative conferences between member organisations such as the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Vietnam Farmers' Union (VFU), the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, to launch emulation movements and campaigns aiming to mobilise people from all walks of life; encourage entrepreneurs and enterprises to actively emulate learning and labour; boost production and business; and improve productivity and labour intensity to create new motivation and resilience to help the country overcome the difficult period caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, towards the national development goals set by the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The VFF and its member organisations will organise to commend and propose to the competent authorities to reward, honour organisations, individuals, businesses and entrepreneurs, especially the grassroots forces, and people, for their great contributions to the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Thank you very much for your interview!
