Colorful closing ceremony of Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games officially closed with a brief, simple but impressive closing ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on the evening of September 5.

Colourful dances from the host country’s actors opened the closing ceremony under the theme of "Harmonious Cacophony" and "Moving Forward".

The Japanese flag was carried into the Olympic Stadium.

The closing ceremony started with the story of a boy inspired by the Paralympic Effect after witnessing the Paralympic Games begin.

More than 4,400 athletes from 162 countries and territories and a refugee sports delegation took part in Tokyo 2020. This was the biggest sports festival ever for athletes with disabilities.

Hosts Japan had a successful Games as they won a total of 51 medals, including 13 gold medals, ranking 11th overall in the medal tally.

After 12 days of exciting competition, the Paralympic flag was lowered at the closing ceremony and handed over to Paris – the host city for the next Paralympic Games in 2024.
