Wushu is one of the sports that have contributed several high achievements to Vietnamese sports for more than 30 years. Wushu Vietnam has affirmed its solid position in the regional, continental and world arena with many outstanding faces.

Wushu is divided into two contents: Wushu Sanshou and Wushu Taolu.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, for the past two years, the Vietnamese Wushu team has not had the opportunity to go abroad to train to improve their skills. Internal testing sessions help Wushu Taolu athletes get used to the competition conditions as well as edit and perfect their movements to be the most proficient.

Wushu Taolu mainly focuses on movements such as kicks, balancing, pushing, sweeping movement jumps and somersaults. The flexibility of the athletes combined with the movements will give viewers the feeling that this martial art is soft but strong.

After not attending the 30th SEA Games due to the host reducing the number of contents for Wushu Taolu, the reigning SEA Games 29 champion in Swordsmanship and Martial Arts, Duong Thuy Vi, is back.

The presence of veteran athletes will help Wushu Taolu content’s members to be more confident when competing at home this time.

At the 31st SEA Games, the Wushu team's coaching staff will introduce some new faces in attendance for the first time, including athlete Dang Tieu Binh in the content of swordsmanship and spearmanship.

Interspersed with technical training sessions, and internal tests, the coaching staff also focuses on physical training for athletes, so that they can ensure to meet the proposed volume of lesson plans, as well as the serenity of the competition.

One of the strengths of Vietnam's Wushu Taolu content is the Taiji (Tai Chi) and Taiji Jian (Tai Chi Sword)

On the list to attend the upcoming 31st SEA Games, remains veteran athlete Tran Thi Minh Huyen. At the 30th SEA Games in 2019, Tran Thi Minh Huyen won a silver medal in the content of Taiji Jian and a bronze medal in Taiji. This year, the coaching staff hopes that with her experience, she will change the colour of both medals.

In the content of Taiji and Taiji Jian for men and women this year, the team also introduced two faces that promise to create surprises, Tran Thi Kieu Trang and Nguyen Van Phuong.

Wushu Sanshou, is a martial art with great damage, accompanied by knocks, kicks at fast speed and strong force. Therefore, except when competing, athletes must wear protective clothing when practising to limit injuries.

The COVID-19 epidemic has greatly affected the team's international training and competition plans. The whole team has to practice running and competing internally every weekend to maintain the feeling of competition.

Although there are no conditions to evaluate and know the level of competitors in the region, the whole team is still determined to protect Bui Truong Giang's achievement of one gold medal in the 60 kg content and promises to create surprises in the remaining weight classes.
