Kayaking is a new sport that has recently become popular in Vietnam. Ha Long Bay is an ideal place for kayaking as the weather is calm with no waves.

Ha Long Bay has been voted as one of the top 25 kayak tourist destinations in the World, as voted by the acclaimed US-based magazine National Geographic.

Kayaks are allowed to operate in Cong La – Ba Hang area, which is 20 kilometres from Hon Gai Wharf.

Located in Hung Thang ward, Ha Long city, Ba Hang fishing village is one of the tourist attractions in the journey to discover Ha Long Bay.

There are around 50 households in the village, which used to earn their living by fishing but have now turned to running tourist activities.

In addition to providing kayaks, locals also row bamboo boats to serve visitors

The name ‘Ba Hang’ (Three Caves) comes from the fact that, when the tide goes up and down, caves also appear - and then the boats can easily sail through the cave.

Travellers can kayak themselves at the foot of the great limestone mountains which were formed millions of years ago.

The kayak service is available at only VND50,000 (US$2.14) per person, and VND100,000 (US$4.28) per person to take a bamboo boat ride with local people.

Ba Hang has become more popular on the tourist map after it was chosen as one of the filming locations of the blockbuster “Kong: Skull Island” in 2016.
