Hundreds of people of blood type O and A make donations

Despite rain and cold chill in Hanoi on April 12, hundreds of people of blood type O and A residing in HH Apartment Complex in Hoang Mai District made donations in response to an urgent appeal made by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) to call for blood donations of the two types.

Many people came to the blood donation site from early in the morning.

Soon after a call for blood donation was posted on the HH Apartment Complex Residents’ Facebook group, it attracted around 150 registers, excluding many others coming directly to the event on April 12.

The event was held jointly by the NIHBT and the HH4C Apartment Block’s volunteer group.

The donors had their body temperatures measured and were asked to wash their hands with antibacterial dry hand sanitizer and fill health declaration forms before making blood donation.

Vu Thi Tham, a resident in HH4C Apartment Block, came to the event with her husband. Both of them have donated their blood four times.

Nguyen Hai Chinh, a resident with blood type O who is working far from home, said when he returned home and heard the NIHBT’s call for blood donation, he immediately registered to donate his blood.

A foreigner participated in the event.

Despite waiting for hours, the donors patiently wait for their turn at a distance which is far enough to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to Pham Minh Tuan, a member of the volunteer group, a total of 200 units of blood types A and O were collected by the end of the day. His group has hosted nine blood donation events at HH Apartment Complex since 2015.
