Hanoi faces fierce heat in June

Hanoi has experienced recent month of June many fierce heat waves lasting up to a week; as a result, the rhythm of life and people in the capital city have changed.

In the last days of June, the sun continuously radiated hot air down on every corner of the capital from the early morning until 7pm.

The outdoor temperature reached over 40 degrees Celsius in some places, making people feel extremely uncomfortable even though they wore both hats and sunscreen, clothes and masks.

In the suburbs, farmers harvested rice in the early morning so that their work would be finished before 10am when the heat became stronger.

People found many ways to cope with the heat. Spraying water around their houses and restaurants as well as on iron roofs was an effective way to cool down.

When the sun went down, people began to go out to enjoy the cooler atmosphere. Children followed their parents to vacant lots to fly kites.
