General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member and Minister of Defence, made the request on August 30 while chairing a conference with leaders of the Ministry of Defence.

Speaking at the conference, General Phan Van Giang praised agencies and units of the whole army for their great efforts in carrying out their tasks in August.

He emphasised that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defence should continue to direct the entire army to deploy guidelines and measures in a synchronous and drastic manner in order to comprehensively complete the tasks in September.

Specifically, the whole army needs to strictly maintain the mode of combat readiness, firmly grasp and forecast the situation, provide advice, and promptly handle situations, General Giang said.

Attention must be paid to strictly implementing the direction of the Party Central Committee and Government on strengthening measures to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic, along with actively coordinating in deploying forces and means to effectively support localities, especially Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and southern provinces and cities, in the fight against COVID-19, he noted.
