Vietnamese representative agencies abroad should uphold their role in providing information and advising on policies related to foreign affairs, thus contributing to further enhancing Vietnam’s relations with other countries, particularly between the country’s localities and their partners.

The requirement was made by Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia during his meeting with 24 chiefs of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad in Hanoi on November 16, including 19 ambassadors.

Addressing the meeting, Nghia noted that the external information work has made significant contributions to promoting the image of a proactive, active and responsible Vietnam with high international unity to the world.

The Vietnamese representative agencies abroad must become formal and direct information channel to inform international friends and overseas Vietnamese of the country’s situation, he added. In addition to helping international community understand thoroughly the cause of national construction and defence as well as the successful implementation of the correct guidelines and policies of Vietnam, the agencies should make efforts to fight against wrongful and hostile views while taking advantage of consensus and support from the political officials, public opinion, and media of foreign countries around the world, noted Nghia.

He asked the agencies to diversify methods and information channels, especially new media and social networks, to promote the land, culture and people of Vietnam.

The Party official urged for the completion of the “Strategy on external information during 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045”.
