Vietnamese military anniversaries marked nationwide

Nhan Dan – A series of activities were held across the country on December 19 to mark the 64th anniversary of the National Resistance Day (December 19), the 66th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22) and the 21th anniversary of the All-People’s National Defence Day (December 22).

A grand ceremony to mark the anniversaries was organised by the Military Headquarters in co-ordination with the Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Cu Chi at the Ben Duoc Memorial Temple in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City.

The event was also among activities held to mark the 15th anniversary of the Cu Chi tunnels historical relic site and the 15th anniversary of the Ben Duoc Memorial Temple.

The ceremony was attended by former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, former Vice President Truong My Hoa, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City's Party Committee Nguyen Van Dua and hundreds of Heroic Vietnamese mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, war veterans and people from all walks of life.

Delegates recalled the People's Army's construction and development as well as its glorious achievements in the resistance wars against French colonialism and US imperialism for the national liberation and freedom.

* On the same day, many activities took place in Binh Thuan province and Hanoi city to recall the tradition and achievements of the People's Army, military units and its members over the past 66 years.

* An exchange programme entitled 'Businesses, Entrepreneurs and Border Areas' was held in Hai Phong city on December 18 to appeal to businesses to donate to the poor and especially those in border areas. The programme launched two years ago also included the contributions of soldiers in building infrastructure facilities and houses for needy people in border areas.
