President Truong Tan Sang emphasised the request while addressing a ceremony in Tan An city, Long An province on April 29 to observe the 40th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification (1975-2015).

The State leader called on each Vietnamese citizen, at home and abroad, to promote solidarity and joint efforts to build a strong, prosperous, democratic, just and civilised Vietnam and to safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity.

Provincial leaders should also put priority on developing culture, protecting the environment, maintaining political stability, social order and safety, and enhancing Party building, he noted.

On the occasion, a delegation of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front Central Committee led by Politburo member and Secretary of the city’s Party Committee Le Thanh Hai laid a wreath at the city’s war martyrs cemetery.

Participants held one-minute of silence in memory of fallen soldiers and revolutionary heroes who sacrificed their lives for the national independence, liberation and reunification.

Also this morning, the central province of Quang Tri hosted a flag hoisting ceremony at Hien Luong-Ben Hai relic site as the opening event of a series of activities celebrating the anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification.
