Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh, authorised by President Truong Tan Sang, granted the appointment decisions to Chau, three deputy chief justices: Quang Duc Tuyen, Ly Khanh Hong and Vo Van Cuong, and 34 high-level judges, 19 of whom work for the city’s high-level court.

In his remarks, Binh called on high-level judges to promote their responsibilities as the courts’ leaders, closely follow the Supreme People’s Court’s instruction and fully grasp the Politburo’s Resolution No. 49-NQ/TW on judicial reform strategies until 2020.

The High-level People’s Court was established in line with Resolution No. 957/NQ-UBTVQH13 dated May 28, 2015 by the National Assembly Standing Committee, exercising jurisdiction over 23 southern cities and provinces starting from Ninh Thuan moving southwards.

The body is tasked with handling appeals over first-instance judgments by provincial people’s courts that have yet to take effect, in line with regulations of the Procedure Code.

It is also responsible for conducting retrials over legally-valid judgments and decisions by people’s courts at provincial and grass-root levels according to the Procedure Code as they are appealed.
