Glorious Vietnam 2015 honours national spirit

The Glorious Vietnam 2015 Programme honouring national sprit and patriotism was held at Hanoi Opera House on August 16 in the presence of State President Truong Tan Sang.

Including the themes of patriotism, national spirit, pride in Vietnam’s fine cultural values, Glorious Vietnam 2015 is among significant activities marking the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), the traditional day of the Vietnam People’s Public Security force and ten years of the ‘All people protect national security’ movement.

Initiated in 2004, the programme has become a prestigious event drawing the attention of people at home and abroad.

This year’s programme honoured ten outstanding collectives and individuals from sea, island and border areas who have made outstanding achievements in the patriotic emulation movement and in building and protecting the country.

Among the honoured were the Party, government and people of Ngoc Hien district in Ca Mau province; Mong Cai city in Quang Ninh province; Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands district of Da Nang City; and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands district of Khanh Hoa province; along with notable figures such as Captain Lau A Chu, head of Counter-reactionary and Terrorist Department under Dien Bien provincial Police; and Colonel Tran Xuan Truong, head of the Soc Trang provincial Police Department for Investigation of Social Order.

The programme also honoured 108 organisations and individuals that gained significant achievements in patriotic emulation movements for national construction and defence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang emphasised that the programme was of significance to honouring patriotism and national pride, encouraging the labour movement and national development as well as in defence.

Along with the event, relevant sectors and localities need to replicate the good essence and value among members in society to promote a strong and prosperous nation during the international integration process, General Quang urged.

At the event, 70 National Emblem and statues of national hero Saint Giong were awarded to localities at the Fatherland outpost.

The programme was co-organised by the People's Police newspaper, Dai Doan Ket newspaper, Vietnam Science and History Association, Vietnam Television and Asia Friendship Company.
