The event saw the presence of President Truong Tan Sang; Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Dinh La Thang; and former Politburo member and Secretary of the City’s Party Committee Le Thanh Hai.

On the occasion, President Sang presented the Independence Order, third class, to the City’s Youth Volunteer Force for their dedication to the development of the nation in general and to the city in particular.

Reviewing the glorious tradition of the force, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Long emphasised that the force is considered as a ‘leading educator’ in training socialist people, focusing particularly on the younger generations, for the cause of national construction and defence.

After the launching ceremony on March 28, 1976, more than 10,000 youth volunteers went about reclaiming uncultivated land, creating fertile areas. In addition, the force made great contributions to protecting the southwestern border and fulfilling international obligations in Cambodia.

During the Doi Moi (renewal) process and national development period, the Youth Volunteer Force has promoted its tradition and political role to fulfill all assigned tasks, significantly contributing to Ho Chi Minh City’s socio-economic development.

At the ceremony, a special arts programme honouring Vietnamese youth volunteers was held, evoking emotions among delegates and audience members.
