Conference sets targets for socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City

The fouth conference of the Ho Chi Minh municipal Party Committee (2015-2020 tenure) was held on March 27 under the chairmanship of the Party Committee’s Secretary Dinh La Thang to review the implementation of the city’s socio-economic development plan in the first quarter of the year and devise a plan for the second quarter.

Politburo member Thang praised the efforts of local authorities and organisations in realising the set plan and asked them to well-perform the city’s key role and create a consensus in society to develop the city both quickly and sustainably while working closely with central agencies and ministries to form breakthrough policies to promote the city’s potential and strengths and boost regional connectivity.

The official suggested acquiring authorisation from central agencies for the city related to all aspects in line with the city’s characteristics, as well as a modern and transparent administration mechanism for the administrative service system.

He asked local authorities to focus on improving people’s living standards and successfully organising the forthcoming election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 tenure.

It was reported that in the first three months of the year, the city’s economy saw positive changes: the gross domestic product increased by 7.1% year on year; the State budget collection was estimated to reach 24.12% of the year’s plan, a 0.92% year-on-year rise; the total registered and supplemented capital from domestic investors was VND83.63 trillion (US$3.76 billion), a 42.2% year-on-year increase.

In addition, progress was also made in urban management, infrastructure development, safe-water supply, environmental protection, scientific and technological development, education and training, healthcare, culture and sports while social welfare policies were implemented effectively.
