PM urges better co-operation between government and VFF in implementing key tasks

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan co-chaired an annually meeting in Hanoi on March 30 to assess co-ordination between the two groups in 2015 and map out key tasks for co-operation in 2016.

Speaking at the event, PM Dung briefed the groups on the outstanding socio-economic results in 2015 in particular, and during the five-year 2011-2015 plan in general. He affirmed that effective collaboration between the government and the VFF has contributed significantly to the country’s overall achievements.

Through their co-ordination, the government betters its performing of functions and duties as the nation’s highest administrative body, while the collaboration results also assert the VFF’s important role, position, functions and duties, he said.

The PM suggested the VFF encourage intellectuals, religious leaders, individuals with a strong reputation in the community and overseas Vietnamese to join the VFF at all levels, facilitating sound co-operation with the government to promote social consensus and the great national unity bloc.

The VFF Central Committee should also advise the government on implementing socio-economic development tasks in 2016 with a focus on improving people's lives.

The government leader also urged the VFF to do a good job in performing its monitoring and social criticism role to promote democracy and ownership rights of people. "Monitoring is reflecting the Constitution’s spirit in protecting human rights and ownership rights of people, while criticism is listening to reviews on the reverse side to make the right policies and create consensus among society”, the PM stressed.

Regarding the fight against corruption, PM Dung affirmed that there is no way to promote openness, transparency, a rule-of-law State by the people and for the people, and give full play to people's ownership to tackle the issue. In addition, the most radical solution is improving mechanisms for a solid political system to defend the country and bring a better life to the people.

VFF President Nhan pledged further co-operation with the government in implementing tasks that the two sides agreed on in 2016, including conducting surveys and assessment on the satisfaction of people towards public services; monitoring and evaluating implementation of policies and measures in response to climate change and sea level rise; and promoting effective implementation of the movements on socio-economic development, building a modern countryside, and sustainable poverty reduction.

The same day, PM Dung and VFF President Nhan signed a co-operation programme on monitoring food safety assurance during the 2016-2020 period, aimed at raising awareness and responsibility of each individual, household, organisation, business and community in making a fundamental change in the production and trading of safe, high quality food to protect and improve people's health.
