On August 31, Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony to posthumously bestow the title of “Heroic Vietnamese Mother” upon 40 women from the city. The event was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh La Thang.
At the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu extended her well-wishes to the mothers’ families. She also stressed that the Party and State always remember the sacrifices and dedication of martyrs, wounded soldiers, heroes and Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in the cause of national liberation and independence. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 4,849 heroic Vietnamese mothers, of which 301 are alive.
On the same day, three photo exhibitions officially kicked off on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and Dong Khoi street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The event, which will run until September 11, features glorious milestones in the nation’s history over the past 71 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).
The exhibits also introduce the comprehensive development and outstanding achievements attained by the Party, the government and the people of Ho Chi Minh City.
The northern central province of Thanh Hoa held a ceremony to bestow the title of “Heroic Vietnamese Mother” upon 347 women in the locality, 339 of them posthumously. The province now has more than 100 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces and Heroes of Labour, as well as 4,208 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers.
In the evening of August 31, the CPV Online Newspaper organised an arts programme themed “Independence Day—Autumn of Revolution” in Hanoi. The programme featured unique songs and dances praising the land and people of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, as well as introducing glorious milestones in the history of the nation’s revolution.
The Hanoi authorities have announced that a variety of cultural and art activities will be held around the centre of the capital from September 1-4 to celebrate the National Day. Visitors will have the chance to learn more about Vietnam’s history and the beauty of the land and people of Vietnam through two photo exhibitions as well as to enjoy performances xam singing (ancient folk songs performed by blind beggars), ca tru (ceremonial) singing, chau van (spiritual) singing, quan họ (love duet) singing and ancient cheo (traditional opera) singing.
Earlier on August 30, the Vietnam Red Cross Society held a seminar analysing the implications of President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology for humanitarian work. At the event, the delegates also discussed measures to promote the campaign of “studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example” in red cross movements.
