Tra Vinh asked to develop thermoelectricity

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked the Mekong river delta province of Tra Vinh to utilise its available advantages to develop thermoelectricity.

Speaking at the working session with the provincial key leaders on September 8, the Deputy PM said that thermoelectric plants would help to create jobs for thousands of local employees and increase local budget while ensuring power supply for the Mekong delta region.

He asked the provincial authorities to review its planning and economic restructuring to raise the locality’s climate change adaption response, adding that economic restructuring should be done with a consideration to the province’s potentials, advantages and the market’s demand.

It is also necessary to make proper investments to improve the infrastructure system, particularly in relation to industrial infrastructure, he stressed.

According a provincial authorities’ report, Tra Vinh has attained an annual growth rate of 11.53% in the 2011-2015 period.

During the first eight months of this year, the province posted a gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 7.98% and collected VND 6,119 billion (US$ 274.3 million) in budget collection.

The locality has also gained encouraging achievements in building new-style rural areas, developing healthcare and education, and improving the living standards of local residents.

Earlier the same day, Deputy PM Dung also inspected the operation of Duyen Hai thermal power plants and the Duyen Hai Power Centre.
