This remark was made on September 12 by Politburo member, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and Deputy Head of the Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption at a working session with the Hanoi Party Committee.
Speaking at the session, Politburo member Huynh praised the city’s progress in the inspection, investigation, prosecution and adjudication of cases related to corruption and economic crimes over the past few years.
Emphasising that Hanoi is one of the leading locales in this field, with many effective anti-corruption programmes, the Politburo member urged the city to enhance the roles and responsibilities of local executive committees, authorities and leaders, while soliciting the active participation of the people in curbing corruption.
Hanoi also needed to review and improve State management mechanisms and eliminate deficiencies to improve the effectiveness of socio-economic management and to ensure openness and transparency in all public-sector activities, especially those in areas prone to corruption, he noted.
Addressing the session, Politburo member and Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said Hanoi played an important role in the State’s management work and corruption prevention.
The city has held thousands of conferences to build awareness among nearly 1.5 million officials while revising and promulgating hundreds of documents suiting the local situation.
Pointing to some shortcomings in the field, including an inadequate understanding of the fight among a number of Party members and ineffective implementation of anti-corruption work, Secretary Hai affirmed that in the time ahead, the city would accelerate communications campaigns to popularise anti-corruption policies and laws.
More attention would also be paid to improving legal documents, strictly handling any violations and increasing officials’ awareness, he noted.
