During a working session with provincial leaders on September 21, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the outstanding results that Ca Mau has obtained in socio-economic development and the implementation of the national target programme on building new-style rural areas over the past few years.
He also spoke highly of Ca Mau’s efforts to overcome the difficulties caused by drought and saline intrusion, as well as its positive socio-economic development outcomes over the past eight months.
According to a report released by the provincial People’s Committee, in the first eight months, Ca Mau’s total seafood output reached more than 328,000 tonnes. Total export revenue reached US$568 million. The province’s state budget collection amounted to over VND2.647 trillion (over US$ billion), satisfying 62% of the city’s yearly target.
Speaking at the session, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the province to make appropriate planning for shrimp cultivation areas and upgrade infrastructure to meet the sustainable development of the local fisheries industry, while paying more attention to improving people’s lives and mobilising local resources for the cause of building modern rural areas.
More effort should also be directed to building clean coastal areas with buffer forest coverage for climate change adaption and protection against rising sea levels, he noted.
PM Phuc urged Ca Mau to focus on developing high-quality human resources to meet the local demand for socio-economic development, and make full use of its economic advantages and potential, including in the sea economy, agricultural production, fisheries, tourism and services.
The Government leader also reminded the southernmost province to take relevant measures to ensure social order and security and alleviate poverty.
The government will prioritise funding to facilitate Ca Mau’s urgent projects to combat natural calamities and respond to climate change, he added.
