According to the announcement, the Central Party Committee for Public Security shall have sixteen members and its Standing Committee shall comprise seven members thereof, including the three top leaders of the Party and State. This is the first time a Party General Secretary has become a member of the Central Party Committee for Public Security and its Standing Committee.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, General Secretary Trong asked the newly appointed Party body to unite and assert its leadership over every activity of the People’s Public Security force.

He said that each member of the Committee should tackle difficulties and challenges, stay tough and be responsible.

He stressed that the Committee needed to improve its analysis, assessment and forecasting to identify threats to national security and advise the Party and State on how to deal with them.

He urged the Committee to build the Party Organisation for Public Security, as well as other Party organisations within the Ministry of Public Security and the People’s Public Security force, to be clean and strong in terms of their leading and operating capacity.

Sen. Lt. Gen. To Lam, Secretary of the Central Party Committee for Public Security and Minister of Public Security, said that this was the first time the Committee had included the three top leaders of the Party and State.

General Lam stressed that the move demonstrated the Party and State’s concern for the preservation of national security, the maintenance of order and social security and the construction of the People’s Public Security force in the current period, affirming the Committee’s commitment to successfully fulfilling the tasks entrusted to it by the Party, State and people.

After the announcement ceremony, the Committee convened its first session, approving its working regulations and agenda for the 2015-2020 period and electing its inspection commission, in addition to dealing with other important issues.
