Speaking at the meeting, President Quang congratulated Quang Ninh and the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group on their successes in a celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of the coal sector on November 12.

The Quang Ninh coal mining area had been one of the cradles of the revolutionary movement of the working class in Vietnam, culminating in the general strike of more than 30,000 miners on November 12, 1936 under the slogan “Discipline and Consensus—We Will Certainly Win,” the President said.

Over the past 80 years, generations of cadres, workers and people of Quang Ninh had upheld their heroic tradition and contributed significantly to the liberation, construction and defence of the nation, he noted.

President Quang said that in the context of opportunities and challenges, the coal sector should be creative with its business operations, while Quang Ninh Province must become an industrial and service hub for the North.

The State leader also asked the province to recommend unique policies to realise its potential and actively join the ASEAN-China economic corridor.

He also urged Quang Ninh to focus on mobilising both domestic and foreign resources to develop its infrastructure system in a synchronous and modern manner, while paying attention to sustainable economic development and environmental protection, as well as effectively restoring and promoting the world’s natural heritage at Ha Long Bay.
