The former minister has been dismissed as secretary of the ministry’s Party committee retrospectively during the 2011-2016.

During his tenure, Hoang appointed his son, Vu Quang Hai, as inspector of the Vietnam Tobacco Corporation and later transferred him to the Saigon Beer, Alcohol and Beverage Company to be later elected as its deputy general director.

In addition to favouring his son, Hoang is also found to have committed other violations relating to the personnel issues, leading to serious consequences, notably appointing Trinh Xuan Thanh, who has fled abroad, to key corporate posts.

Meanwhile the Party committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade itself has also been disciplined with a warning.

Under Hoang’s leadership, the committee showed a lack of responsibility by failing to follow proper appointment procedures and violating the law when recommending the loss-making PetroVietnam Construction Corporation to be awarded the Labour Hero title.

Infringements by Hoang and the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Party committee undermined the reputation of the Party, State and ministry, causing a public outcry, the Party Secretariat concluded.
