As a northern locality situated on the border of the country, Lang Son has a strategic position in socio-economic development, as well as in ensuring security and defence and promoting foreign affairs.

Addressing the ceremony, President Quang congratulated and appreciated the achievements that the province has gained over recent years. He emphasised that the Party committee, government and people in Lang Son have overcome all difficulties and challenges to mobilise resources and promote its potentials to further develop in all fields.

He also asked the province to continue to uphold its patriotic and revolutionary tradition to successfully fulfill key tasks over the coming time, including utilising its potentials and developing the border economy, as well as trade and tourism services.

In addition, authorities of Lang Son should focus on synchronously developing agriculture, forestry and the rural economy; enhancing the application of scientific and technical advances in production; protecting the environment; preventing and controlling natural disasters; and mitigating the negative impacts of climate change, said the State leader.

The President urged Lang Son to promote the development of handicrafts as well as medium and small scale industries, particularly supporting and processing industries.

The province needs to pay much attention to developing the Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone, striving to become a service centre in the north-eastern sub-region by 2020, added President Quang.

He noted that it is highly essential for Lang Son province to boost efforts in hunger elimination and poverty reduction, ensuring social welfares, and firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and border security.

The provincial Party committee was asked to continue to effectively implement Resolution No.4 (of the 11th and 12th Party Central Committee) on Party building, in association with the Politburo's Directive No.5 (of the 12th tenure) on the acceleration of studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morals and style.
