VFF leader urges measures to make Hai Phong become smart city

The entire political system of Hai Phong city should make more efforts to build the northern port city into a smart urban area over the coming times.

The statement was made by Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan while working with Hai Phong’s leaders on socio-economic development, implementation of the Resolution of the city’s 15th Party congress, orientations for administrative reforms and building the city into a smart urban area.

Addressing the working session, VFF President Nhan emphasised that with the development of technology, smart urban areas are a trend of major cities throughout the world, contributing to Hai Phong’s rapid and sustainable development.

He noted four solutions for building smart urban areas, two-channel strategies and ten priority tasks for 2016-2020 period.

The VFF leader called for the synchronous implementation of building smart urban areas in the city and district levels, paying much attention to ecological specificities and local cultural identities.

The VFF President confirmed that the VFF Central Committee would actively co-ordinate with ministries and branches to connect with and support localities in building smart urban areas.

Since early this year, Hai Phong has strived to fulfill all tasks and gained outstanding results in socio-economic development and defence and security.

The city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in 2016 is estimated to reach a year-on-year increase of 11% and its budget revenue is estimated at over VND62.6 trillion.
