The statement was announced at a consultation workshop in Hanoi on November 10 regarding the national action plan to implement the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

Speaking at the workshop, Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment stressed the importance of building a national action plan which was adheres to the United Nations 2030 agenda and Vietnam’s situation while showing high feasibility in deployment.

As the building of the action plan needs the involvement of all functional parties, the workshop was held to create a venue for relevant stakeholders to make proposals to complete the draft for the plan, he said.

The draft action plan proposed a list of Vietnam’s sustainable development goals (SDGs) as well as suggests solutions to realise the goals by 2030.

Louise Chamberlain, Country Director of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam praised the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI)’s effort to mobilise contributions of relevant parties, especially the private sector and civil social organisations in building the draft plan.

The action plan needs to identify priorities for vulnerable groups, while clarifying coordination and participation among involved parties as well as the importance of supervising data collected during the the agenda implementation.

The national action plan was designed based on reviewing current policies, strategies and development plans of Vietnam, with comparison of 17 global SDGs and 169 specific targets.

The building process was carried out from July-September this year, attracting the participation of ministries, sectors, agencies, UN organisations, international organisations and Vietnam’s development partners.

It is designed to provide orientations for Vietnam to achieve the SDGs by 2030 while defining responsibility and coordination among relevant parties in implementing the country’s SDGs.

It will also act as a legal basis for Vietnam to realise its commitments with the international community, contributing to global efforts for sustainable development.
