Group of young National Assembly deputies make their debut

The group, established in accordance with a resolution issued by the NA Standing Committee on November 9, 2016, is led by First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Le Quoc Phong.

Speaking at the event, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed hope that the group would actively join the NA’s activities in deciding on key national issues, devising laws and monitoring legal enforcement.

The 14th NA’s deputies aged below 45 account for 26.5% of the total, reflecting the role of young generations in national development and voters’ trust in them, she said.

On the occasion, she asked the group’s standing board to outline plans for the tenure and each year, hold seminars to discuss legislature’s agenda, particularly those involving young people, as well as work closely with agencies concerned to improve professional skills.

Deputies were also urged to actively join young parliamentarians’ forums in inter-parliamentary mechanisms to which the Vietnamese NA is a member, boost ties with foreign counterparts to raise mutual understanding and rally their support for Vietnam’s stance on domestic, regional and global affairs, towards improving the law-making body’s stature in international arena.

Phong, for his part, pledged that the group will strive to fulfil assigned tasks, hold seminars to raise young people’s awareness of the NA’s activities, and join bilateral and multilateral mechanisms in the region and the world, contributing to the success of the 14th NA.
