Opening the afternoon session, Chairman of the NA’s External Relations Committee, Nguyen Van Giau, delivered a report explaining and acquiring the NA deputies’ opinions on the ratification of the CPTPP and related documents.

The legislators then voted to pass the resolution ratifying the CPTPP, receiving approval from all of the 469 deputies in attendance.

The resolution features four articles, including regulations on organising the implementation of the document and supervising the implementation process.

Specifically, the NA has assigned the Government, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy and the relevant organisations and agencies to review the laws and other legal documents in order to propose the authorised agencies make adjustments and supplements or issue new documents in a timely fashion, thus ensuring the consistency of the legal system and remaining in accordance with the roadmap for implementing the commitments under the CPTPP.

The Prime Minister will be responsible for approving the plans for the implementation of the CPTPP and instructing central and local agencies and organisations in carrying out the plans, focusing on training human resources to optimise the opportunities brought about by the CPTPP, and building and effectively implementing measures to prevent and handle any adverse impacts that could possibly arise during the implementation of the CPTPP. The resolution also requests the timely dissemination of the full content of the pact in order to create a consensus in awareness and action among the entire political system, businesses and the people concerning Vietnam’s participation in the CPTPP.

The NA has assigned the Government to instruct the ministries and sectors concerned to finalise the procedures for the ratification of the CPTPP and announce the date that the pact takes effect in Vietnam.

The NA, the NA Standing Committee, the NA’s Council for Ethnic Affairs, NA committees, NA delegations and NA deputies are responsible for supervising the implementation of the resolution within their tasks and jurisdiction.
