Lai Chau urged to fully tap into potential for economic development

The northern mountainous province of Lai Chau should fully tap into their potential and strengths, particularly in hydropower, minerals, herb plants and medicinal plants, to raise economic values and income for people.

The statement was made by Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh at her working session with leaders of Lai Chau province on June 25.

The Vice President appreciated the socio-economic development and achievements in emulation movements that the province has gained over the past three years.

She said that Lai Chau authorities need to pay much more attention to poverty reduction and focus on investment attraction, while improving the provincial competitiveness index (PCI) and the administrative reform index (PAR INDEX).

The locality should enhance the prevention and fight against the conspiracies and tricks of hostile forces as well as accelerate crime prevention and combat, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty and security of the border line, added Vice President Thinh.

She also asked local officials, cadres and civil servants to uphold the spirit of attitude to serve people, while urging the rearrangement of organisational apparatus.

On the occasion, the Vice President and the delegation presented 50 gifts to policy beneficiaries and poor households; 280 scholarships to children living in difficult circumstances; and VND2 billion for the construction of spillways in the province.
