The cabinet leader was speaking at a conference held by the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi on June 26 to review the operations of the police force in the first half of this year.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, PM Phuc highly praised the results of the public security forces in the first six months of 2019, saying that such achievements and sacrifices have contributed greatly to ensuring political security and social order, protecting the peaceful life of the people and creating a foundation for political and social stability to help the country move forward in its development and international integration.

The leader stressed that the police force must actively grasp and make close forecasts on the international, regional and domestic situations related to national security to advise the Party and State leaders, especially when Vietnam take the ASEAN Chair task in 2020 and the non-permanent seat of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure, as well as preparing to organise the Party congresses at all levels.

In any situation, the police must take the lead in promptly detecting and fighting all the conspiracies of any enemy forces, Phuc said, urging the force to strengthen efforts to reducing and continuing to repel all kinds of crimes and law violations, thus creating positive changes in social security and building an orderly and disciplined society to serve the national socio-economic development and proactive international integration.

He also requested that the police force should continue to implement resolutions and directives of the Party, National Assembly and Government on Party building and streamlining the political system, while improving the capacity for its staff.

The force was urged to boost their application of science and technology, especially effectively exploiting the opportunities and advantages from the fourth Industrial Revolution to strengthen online public services in the field of security associated with promoting administrative reform to better meet the development requirements.

In addition, the police force needs to expand foreign relations and international cooperation on security, promoting cooperation with other countries in the fight against crime, terrorism and handling non-traditional security issues, especially in the fight against drug-related and high-tech crimes.

At the conference, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security presented a brief report on the results of the police force in the first six months, indicating that the force has speed up their investigations regarding economic and corruption cases, thereby controlling the rise of crime in general. Criminal investigations are at a high rate (82.25%), 12.25% higher than the National Assembly's set target.
