Politburo member and Permanent member of the Secretariat, Tran Quoc Vuong attended the event and presented the Gold Star Order to the force.
Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member Vuong recalled that over 40 years ago, Vietnamese volunteers and experts helped the Cambodian army and people to overthrow the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, ending the darkest period in Cambodia's history, and ushering in a new chapter for the revival and development of the country.
From 1979-1989, Vietnam sent nearly 3.5 thousand cadres to the neighbouring country, said the Politburo member.
He also noted that the Liaison Committee of the Vietnamese experts assisting in the Cambodian revolution during the 1979-1989 period have actively participated in the external activities, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, Permanent member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong expressed sincere thanks to the Party, State and people of Cambodia for their valuable support in the cause of national liberation, protection, reunification and development as well as their enthusiastic cooperation and help for the Vietnamese experts and volunteers to perform international duties.
Former Politburo member and Secretary of Party Central Committee Vu Oanh, who is also head of the Liaison Committee of the force, affirmed that the Vietnamese veteran experts would continue to uphold the glorious tradition to contribute to boosting the neighbouring relations, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in all fields.
