Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese convenes fourth congress

The fourth congress for the 2019-2024 tenure of the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese took place in Hanoi on September 21.

The event was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai.

Speaking at the congress, Politburo member TruongThi Mai expressed his appreciation for the results that the Association has achieved in the past three tenures.

The Association has made continuous efforts to provide the overseas Vietnamese in foreign countries with accurate and truthful information as well as held many programmes to connect them with the homeland.

The Politburo member asked the Association to uphold its role in promoting the nation’s great unity between domestic people and 4.5 million expatriates, contributing to the country’s development.

The Association should continue to be an important channel to convey the legitimate wishes and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese to the Party and State.

At the congress, the new 108-member Executive Committee of the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese was elected for the 2019-2024 tenure, with 26 of which chosen to join the Standing Committee. Nguyen Phu Binh, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, was selected to be the Association’s Chairman.
