At the meeting, local voters asked the Government to increase investment in the Mekong Delta region, especially in terms of transport infrastructure, as well as to address the slow disbursement of public investment capital that is affecting the country’s development.
The constituents also suggested that the NA consider not increasing overtime working hours for workers when amending the Labour Code, while expressing their concerns about the issues of raising the retirement age and preventing and fighting child abuse.
Responding to the query on the issue of increasing investment in the Mekong Delta, NA Chairwoman Ngan hailed it as a legitimate wish of the voters, agreeing that the current investment level has yet to match the region’s potential.
The NA asks the Government and the Ministry of Transport to accelerate the implementation of the planned transport works across the region, including the Trung Luong-My Thuan and My Thuan-Can Tho expressway routes, while supervising the implementation to ensure progress and quality, she said.
The NA leader stated that many different opinions remain concerning the proposal on increasing workers’ overtime working hours from 300 to 400 per year.
The issues of raising the working hours and the retirement age will only be applied in some particular areas, she said, adding that the NA will specifically discuss the issues at the upcoming session before adopting the amended Labour Code.
Regarding the prevention and fighting of child abuse, NA Chairwoman Ngan hailed the issue as being of the NA’s special care, stating that the NA will review regulations on child rights to make necessary amendments and supplements to suit the reality.
In addition, the top legislator also clarified the voters’ queries on corruption prevention and control as well as on the policies for national contributors.
Earlier on the same day, NA Chairwoman Ngan attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the Lo Vong Cung historical relic site in My Khanh Commune, Phong Dien District, Can Tho City.
Also on October 4, NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien and a delegation of Lai Chau Province’s NA deputies had a meeting with voters in Lai Chau City. Meanwhile, Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh headed a delegation of Quang Ngai Province’s NA deputies to meet with constituents in Son Tinh District’s Tinh Binh Commune and Binh Son District’s Binh Trung Commune.
During the meetings, the officials briefed local voters on the country’s socio-economic situation, while collecting and clarifying their opinions concerning policies towards national contributors, the search for fallen soldiers’ remains, land disputes, black credit in rural areas, and the building of new laws.
