State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs honoured with Independence Order

The State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a ceremony in Hanoi on November 19 to celebrate its 60th anniversary and receive the first-class Independence Order.

The ceremony saw the presence of Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC's Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong ThiMai and Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh granted the first-class Independence Order to the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (for the second time) in recognition of its outstanding achievements in handling overseas Vietnamese affairs, contributing to the cause of national development.

Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said that the award represents the recognition of the Party and State for the efforts and proud achievements that the committee have made over the past 60 years.

The committee has become an important agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and effectively performed its role of providing consultancy to the Party and the State and implementing policies related to Vietnamese people abroad, Minh noted.

The committee also led the movement of mobilising overseas Vietnamese to support the homeland and contribute to the cause of national liberation in the past as well as leads movement for national construction and defence today.

Many meaningful activities held by the committee have been appreciated and welcomed by overseas Vietnamese including Vietnamese language teaching programmes, Xuan Que Huong programme, visits to Truong Sa Island, Vietnam Summer Camp for young overseas Vietnamese, and others.

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh suggested that the committee renew its performance and the organisation of programmes regarding overseas Vietnamese to promote the great national unity.
