Mai, who heads the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Mass Mobilisation Commission, made the remark at a conference held by the PCC’s Commission for External Relations in Hanoi on January 6 to review people’s diplomacy work in 2019 and deploy tasks for 2020.
The Party official applauded the active contributions made by the people’s diplomacy forces to the country’s general foreign affairs achievements over the past few years.
She urged the sector to focus on enhancing the operational efficiency of people’s diplomacy, asking units to pay special attention to the political goals in diverse people’s diplomacy activities, with the optimal goal of protecting national interests.
The Party committees and organisations, especially their heads, should raise awareness and responsibility in renovating and improving the efficiency of people’s diplomacy, in addition to thoroughly grasping Directive 04 of the PCC’s Secretariat in the new situation, ensuring the Party’s leadership and the State’s management over people’s diplomacy, and preventing “self-evolution” and "self-transformation” in people’s diplomacy activities, Mai stated.

The Politburo member asked for the strengthened coordination between Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people’s diplomacy, as well as in the sharing of information between the Fatherland Front, mass unions and people’s organisations.
Units needs to research, amend and supplement, as well as promulgate appropriate mechanisms and policies to facilitate people’s diplomacy, she said, emphasising the need to continue institutionalising the Party’s guidelines regarding the field and improving the quality of staff involved in the work.
As reported at the conference, people’s diplomacy was actively and effectively implemented in 2019, with a number of major and practical activities. Complex and sensitive activities received timely direction and guidance in handling, with close and smooth coordination between people’s organisations and the concerned agencies, ensuring requirements on security, politics and foreign affairs.
At the end of the event, Head of the PCC’s Commission for External Relations, Hoang Binh Quan, launched an emulation movement in the people’s diplomacy work for 2020.
