NDO – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh led a central working delegation to visit and inspect a number of border areas in the northern province of Lao Cai on the morning of July 29.

Politburo member Minh was briefed on the province’s political and socio-economic situation since the beginning of the year.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Vinh said that Lao Cai is one of the first localities nationwide to have completed the organisation of congresses of its subordinate Party committees in June 2020.

Together with its socio-economic development tasks, Lao Cai is striving to implement COVID-19 prevention and control measures, especially in closely controlling its nearly-200km borderline and strengthening the prevention and handling of illegal entry and exit, he stated.

Besides these, the trade cooperation mechanism with China’s Yunnan Province has seen positive progress, Vinh said, noting that Lao Cai has effectively performed its role as a connection bridge in the cross-border export of Vietnamese agricultural products in recent times.

Deputy PM Minh and the working delegation made field trips to a number of border areas in Bat Xat District. He was updated on several situations along the Lao Cai border, as well as the plans for the building of a road bridge over the Red River along the Vietnam-China border in Vuoc Hamlet, Bat Xat District.

As scheduled, the project will be implemented in 2021 if the relevant contents are agreed on by both the Vietnamese and Chinese sides. The construction of the bridge is expected to contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of border trade activities between the two countries.
