The newspaper was established in 1950 by merging the two organs of the national army and the militia force at a time when the French resistance war had entered its most difficult phase, according to Senior Colonel Doan Xuan Bo, editor-in-chief of the newspaper.
Since its birth, reporters and staff at the newspaper, known as Bao Quan Doi Nhan Dan in Vietnamese, have been present at all battlefields, regardless of the hardships and fierce fighting, to cover the Vietnamese army and people’s bravery and remarkable feats.
With its excellent performance, the newspaper has been awarded with many distinguished honours, including the Golden Star Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order, the Feat Order, the Military Exploit Order, as well as the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces and Labour Hero titles.
At the ceremony, Major Colonel Tran Anh Tuan read a congratulatory letter from General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, who expressed his belief that the newspaper will uphold its traditions and make further efforts to cement its role as one of the major newspapers of the Vietnamese press.
Following that, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented the Independence Order, third class, to the newspaper.
In his speech, Minister of Defence Ngo Xuan Lich highlighted the role of the People’s Army Newspaper in covering every aspect of the armed forces as well as the people.
He said that he expects every reporter and editor of the newspaper to have a firm political stance and uphold and extend their extensive knowledge in order to fulfil their missions under any circumstances.
