NA Chair attends ceremony marking 75 years since first general election

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended a ceremony on January 4 in Can Tho City to mark the 75th anniversary of the first election of the Vietnamese National Assembly (January 6, 1946-2021) and review the delegation of the city’s deputies for the 2016-2021 tenure.

Addressing the event, the top legislator briefed participants on the glorious tradition and achievements of the Vietnamese NA since the 1946 general election, stressing that the legislature has kept developing and carried out renovations for the interest of the country and its people.

She said over the past 75 years and 14 tenures, the operation of the NA has become more practical and effective, thus helping address issues arising in society.

The NA has affirmed its historical and crucial role in the country’s struggle for national liberation and reunification in the past as well as in today’s national construction and defence.

The legislature has gathered and promoted the wisdom and enthusiasm of thousands of NA deputies nationwide in building and promulgating the Constitution and laws, deciding important national issues, and supervising all activities of the State, she said.

She took the occasion to applaud the contributions made by Can Tho city’s NA delegation to the operation of the 14th NA and the country’s development in recent years.

She added that the city’s NA deputies have upheld their role and responsibilities, actively serving as a bridge between the Party ,State and voters while making contributions to the NA’s operations.

The deputies were also lauded for their active participation in social activities on caring for policy beneficiaries and national contributors in the locality, thus helping to increase people’s trust in NA deputies.

The top legislator asked the delegation to continue renewing its efforts, effectively contributing to the NA’s activities and actively coordinating with the relevant sectors to prepare for the organisation of the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure.
