Politburo member cum Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organisation Pham Minh Chinh attended the event, held at the HCMA’s headquarters in Hanoi.

Speaking at the conference, HCMA Director, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang said that amid the COVID-19 pandemic and its great negative impacts on socio-economic development around the world, along with other complicated fluctuations, the HCMA has focused on directing its affiliated units to successfully perform the "dual task” of both effectively combating the epidemic, while performing its political and professional tasks well in 2020.

Over the past year, the academy continued to strengthen decentralisation in order to help its specialised units promote proactivity and creativity in performing their assigned functions and tasks. Along with that, the training scale has been diversified in accordance with the requirements of political and practical tasks, with training programmes drastically reformed in the direction of closely following Party documents on defending the Party's ideological basis and fighting against wrongful and hostile views in this new situation.

The HCMA deployed over 600 tasks to achieve positive results last year. In particular, the academy actively researched and offered recommendations on the policies of the Party and State toward the drafting of documents for the upcoming 13th National Party Congress, contributing to providing scientific arguments for the Party and State in defending the Party's ideological foundation, as well as planning policies and guidelines suitable to the development of the country's current reality.

Speaking at the conference, on behalf of the Politburo and Secretariat, Politburo member Chinh praised the results achieved by the HCMA over the past year amid many difficulties and challenges, saying these were the result of the efforts of the academy's staff and students, crystallised after more than 70 years of construction and development.

He suggested that in 2021 and the years to follow, the academy should continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement Party guidelines in a substantial, synchronous and comprehensive manner across all working aspects.

The senior official also urged the academy to focus on renewing its thinking, its operative apparatus and the human resources of the entire academy system.

Regarding training work, the academy needs to integrate the key contents of the 15 current Party documents, including those on national socio-economic development, national security and Party building and social security, while adhering to the motto of putting students and lecturers at the centre of its training work.

Politburo member Chinh also suggested the HCMA pay more attention to scientific management in the direction of improving the quality of scientific research and the effective rebuttal of false, hostile views, along with enhancing the application of information technology in lectures and class and student management.

On the occasion, several collectives and individuals of the academy were honoured with the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister and the Emulation Flag from the HCMA.
