Setting out long-term development directions for the country

Lao newspaper Pasaxon, the official organ of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, ran a front-page article about Vietnam’s strategic vision on January 29, which stressed that the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) marks 35 years of significant and historic achievements in the country’s Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

The article also proved that Vietnam’s path in building socialism suits the actual situation in Vietnam and the development trends of the era.

The CPV’s leadership is a decisive factor determining the success of Vietnam’s revolutionary cause throughout historical periods, it said, adding that Vietnamese people can be proud of their country’s achievements in 2020, when Vietnam was established as a bright spot in the world’s economy.

* Also on January 29, South Africa’s Pretoria News published an article entitled “Historic milestone for Vietnam” by its Editor-in-Chief Valerie Boje, highlighting the crucial role played by the CPV in setting out long-term development directions for the country.

The author emphasised that the 13th National Party Congress is an important time for Vietnam to review its achievements, approve the socio-economic development strategy and a vision for national development, with the goal to turn Vietnam into a developed, socialist-oriented nation.

* In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Nikolaevich Kolotov, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute under the Saint Petersburg State University, attributed Vietnam’s rapid socio-economic development to political stability, favourable regional integration and economic growth.

He noted that if Vietnam continues this policy, the world will surely witness the country’s new achievements in the future.

He believes that it is feasible for Vietnam to reach its goal of becoming a developed nation with high income as set in the 13th National Party Congress.

* According to a recent article posted on the US-based CNBC website, Vietnam was likely the top-performing Asian economy in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The article said that the feat was achieved without a single quarter of economic contraction at a time when many economies globally were weighed down by the pandemic.

Not every Asian economy has reported their fourth-quarter and full-year economic numbers. But estimates compiled by CNBC from official sources and institutions such as the International Monetary Fund show that Vietnam has outperformed all its regional peers in 2020.
