Conference held to hand over tasks to new Foreign Minister

The Party Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a conference on April 12 to hand over tasks from former Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh to newly appointed Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Addressing the conference, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and former Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said that despite the complicated developments of the global situation in the 2011-2021 period, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has led the entire ministry to successfully accomplish its assigned tasks, making significant contributions to enhancing both national prestige and development.

He also shared his feelings about and valuable lessons from his 40 years working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 10 years in the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

The former Foreign Minister also outlined the major directions and key focuses of the diplomacy sector that need to be prioritised in the future.

Minh expressed his belief that new Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, along with the staff at the Foreign Ministry, will continue to promote the legacy of the diplomacy sector to gain further achievements and build a comprehensive and modern level of international diplomacy.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said the appointment is a great honour for him and also a heavy responsibility while affirming his determination and devotion to accomplishing all the assigned tasks.

At the conference Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son signed a memorandum to hand over the responsibilities and duties of Foreign Minister.
