Vice President inspects preparations for elections in Dak Nong

A delegation of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee and the National Election Council (NEC), headed by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, inspected preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th NA and all-level People’s Council for the 2021-2026 tenure in Gia Nghia City, Dak Nong Province, on May 12.

Paying a field trip to polling station No. 3 (Residential Group No. 3 in Nghia Tan Ward, Gia Nghia City), Vice President Xuan praised the preparatory work of Gia Nghia and Nghia Tan regarding the structure of candidates, the resolution of complaints and denunciations, election communication, and determining and publicising the list of people eligible to vote.

To ensure success for the elections, she asked the locality to prepare remote backup plans, focusing on the protection of security, order and social safety; fire prevention and fighting; health care; and especially COVID-19 prevention and control.

In addition, the Election Committee of Dak Nong should strengthen inspection and monitoring to promptly correct errors and prevent them from affecting the election results, the Vice President requested.

Gia Nghia City has established 59 polling sites for the upcoming elections, including 56 in residential areas and three in units of armed forces. It is expected that 38,560 voters will cast ballots across the city.

On the occasion, Vice President Xuan presented a token of 100 gifts worth VND1 million each to policy beneficial families, needy households, and those affected by the pandemic in Nghia Tan Ward.

Presenting his action programme, Chien said that if elected he would keep close contact with the people, while listening to voters’ opinions and aspirations and fully reflecting them in the legislature and to competent agencies for consideration and handling.

He also touched upon his key priorities, including policies for equal socio-economic development among regions; policies on religion, ethnicity, overseas Vietnamese and people’s diplomacy to strengthen the great national unity bloc; and conducting monitoring and social criticism over the National Target Programmes, especially the one for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2021-2030 period.

VFF President Chien affirmed that he would actively contribute to the hunger eradication, poverty reduction and humanitarian relief efforts, as well as helping the vulnerable groups and needy people and working to ensure social security.

After hearing the candidates’ biographies and action programmes, local voters expressed their hopes that the candidates would effectively implement their pledges and make significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the country and the province.
