Addressing the event, Ha thanked Malhotra and the UN for their valuable support for Vietnam in the field, stating that in his position, the UN official has actively promoted the UN’s agenda to help Vietnam better deal with climate change, natural disasters, and sustainable management of natural resources and the environment through the Joint One Strategic Plan (OSP) for the 2017-2021 period between the Government of Vietnam and the UN.

Currently, the UN is accompanying Vietnamese agencies, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), in the joint efforts to respond to climate change, focusing on the Vietnam’s implementation plan for the Paris Agreement with Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) as a key point, the minister said.

For his part, Malhotra expressed his honour at receiving the insignia, affirming that Vietnam is playing an increasingly important role and voice in the UN thanks to its proactive, active and responsible participation and contributions to the common affairs of the international community and the UN.

The UN Resident Coordinator emphasised that he would continue to support Vietnam in the future.

In recent times, the UN has made important and positive contributions to Vietnam in macro-policy making, as well as in providing financial and technical support for the formulation and implementation of policies on climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources and the environment.

In addition, the UN has been involved in the process of completing and amending a number of important laws, such as the revised 2020 Law on Environmental Protection, while supporting the development of technical guidelines for environmental protection plans, the improvement of national institutional capacity on waste management, and the standardisation of data analysis, collection, monitoring and report processes.
