This is an important event in the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022 and the first official visit to Laos by Vuong Dinh Hue as the Chairman of the National Assembly (NA). This is also the first visit of a high-ranking NA delegation to Laos since the country successfully organised the 11th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the first session of the ninth National Assembly.
The official visit to Laos by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue is made in the context that the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos continue to be consolidated and have made important progress in all fields.
With the ever-increasing closeness and trust, the two countries have maintained visits and exchanges in a flexible manner amid the pandemic. The two sides have also maintained cooperation mechanisms, including the meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee. Security-defence cooperation is an important pillar in bilateral relations while economic, cultural, scientific-technical, and education-training cooperation, as well as cooperation in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic, have all seen positive developments.
Cooperation between the two National Assemblies continues to be consolidated and enhanced with practical and effective results. The two sides have shared many important experiences in law making and implemented various cooperation activities such as the exchange of NA delegations at all levels, the organisation of seminars, and the implementation of signed agreements between the two countries.
The parliaments of the two countries cooperate well at regional and international parliamentary forums. Specifically, the two sides closely coordinated in the implementation of the project on building the new National Assembly House of Laos, a gift from Vietnam, which was inaugurated in August 2021.
The official visit to Laos by NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue continues to affirm the Vietnamese Party’s and State’s consistent policy of giving the highest priority and attaching great importance to promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. The visit also affirms Vietnam's comprehensive support for the cause of renewal and national construction and development of Laos as well as supporting Laos in the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the socio-economic development plan for the 2021-2025 period.
Welcoming NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the high-ranking Vietnamese NA delegation, Laos emphasised the special political trust given to Vietnam and its wish to foster comprehensive bilateral relations in order to contribute to the successful implementation of Laos’ socio-economic development plan.
The visit is an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to evaluate cooperation results between Vietnam and Laos, especially between the two National Assemblies while discussing directions to improve cooperation efficiency and implement agreements between the two sides.
The two sides will also exchange views on several regional strategic issues of mutual concern as well as share experiences on coordination and mutual support in response to COVID-19 and socio-economic recovery and development after the pandemic.
The Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022 was launched by the two countries on the occasion of their 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, marking an important milestone in deepening the special friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
