This was a great revolution of the Vietnamese people and a glorious milestone in the history of national construction and defence. From a semi-feudal colonial state, Vietnam has become an independent and free country. From the status of slaves, Vietnamese people had become the owners of the country, mastering their destiny. The nation entered a new era of national independence and socialism. The August Revolution was also an event of era stature with profound international significance, strongly encouraging the spirit and determination of colonised and oppressed people around the world in their fights for independence, democracy and social progress.
The victory of the August Revolution is the crystallisation of the traditional passionate patriotism, wisdom, bravery and indomitable spirit of Vietnamese people under the genius leadership of the CPV and great President Ho Chi Minh. It was also the combined result of revolutionary movements during the 15 years after the Party formed. The August Revolution’s success proved the sound choice of Vietnamese people over many decades of searching for a way to save the country and left valuable lessons for Vietnamese revolution. It showed that it is essential to uphold the banner of national independence and socialism; the revolutionary career is of the people, by the people and for the people; and the Party’s power stems from its attachment to the people. It was also a lesson of continuous enhancement of great national unity under the leadership of the Party, the proactive and creative spirit and self-reliance to seize revolutionary opportunities and take advantage of the support from international friends.
Over the past 75 years, with the aura of the August Revolution and creatively applying valuable lessons, the people have maintained confidence in the Party’s leadership and remained steadfast on revolutionary goal to resiliently overcome all difficulties and hardships, creating miracles in the Ho Chi Minh era. They were the glorious Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954 ending the resistance war against the French colonialism; the victory of the General Offensive and Uprising in spring of 1975 with the culmination of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign to end the resistance war against the US invasion for national salvation, liberating southern Vietnam and reunifying the country. They were followed by the victory in the struggle for defending the northern and southwestern borders, keeping the people’s peace. Entering the period national construction and development, the fire of the August Revolution continued toraise the will and power of the whole people to carry out the renewal cause initiated and led by the Party, gaining great achievements with historical significance.
With the achieved results during nearly 30 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) process, we are proud to affirm that the country has its realm, power, position and prestige of today. Vietnamese people are grateful to President Ho Chi Minh, the genius leaderfor the Party and people on the right path of revolutionary struggle; as well as remembered the great contributions made by millions of heroic fallen soldiers who bravely sacrificed their lives for the national independence, freedom and people’s happiness.
This year’s anniversary of the August Revolution takes place on the occasion of the whole country promoting patriotic emulation movements towards the tenth National Patriotic Congress and holding Party congresses at all levels towards the 13th National Party Congress. The year 2020 also marks many important political events, including Vietnam taking over ASEAN's chairmanship and non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council. The entire Party, people and army areupholding solidarity along with a high spirit to gain best results in the socio-economic development in 2020 and successfully completed the whole of the planned of tenure, contributing to stabilising the macro-economy, enhancing the implementation of strategic breakthroughs, and restructuring the economy in association with the renewal of growth models. The country is effectively implementing the “dual goal” of fighting against Covid-19 epidemic and developing economy, ensuring social welfare and improving the people’s lives as well as paying special attention to maintaining the independence, sovereignty and a peaceful and stable environment for national development.
The agencies and localities have focused on the successful organisation of Party congresses at all levels to set appropriate development directions and devised the preparations for the 13th National Party Congress. The implementation of Resolution 4 of the 12th Party Central Committee in association with the Politburo’s Directive No.5 on studying and following the thought, morality, and style of President Ho Chi Minh and regulations on the responsibility for setting examples havecontinued to be strengthened in order to create a stronger change in Party building and rectification, making the Party stronger in all aspects, meeting the requirements of revolutionary leadership in the new situation and strengthening the people’s confidence in the Party.
The comprehensive enhancement of national renewal is a grate cause that the entire Party and people are determined to carry out in the context of many difficulties and challenges in the domestic and international situation. The aura of the August Revolution in 1945 is a source of power for us to continue to uphold the spirit of elf-reliance to successfully perform the tasks of helping Vietnam take rapid and sustainable steps towards a more beautiful and prosperous future.
